Standing with Israel: A Biblical Mandate for the End Times
Today we turn our hearts and minds to a subject that echoes through the pages of scripture and resonates in our world today: the nation of Israel. From Genesis to Revelation, the Bible reveals Israel as more than a historical nation—it is a cornerstone of God’s prophetic plan. As fundamentalist Christians, we believe that the events unfolding in Modern Israel are not mere coincidences but fulfillments of God’s promises, pointing us toward the return of our Lord Jesus Christ. Today, I invite you to explore why Israel matters, what the Bible says about its role, and how we are called to respond in these prophetic times.
The Biblical Basis for Supporting Israel
Let us begin with a foundational promise from God, found in Genesis 12:3, where He declares to Abraham:
“I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.”
This covenant, given to the father of the Jewish people, carries a timeless weight. It extends to Abraham’s descendants—Israel—and serves as a divine principle for us today. To bless Israel is to align ourselves with God’s will and to receive His favor. To curse Israel is to oppose God’s chosen people, inviting consequences no believer should risk. For Christians, this verse is a clarion call: our support for Israel is not optional—it is a matter of obedience to God’s word.
The Prophetic Fulfillment: Israel’s Rebirth
Now, let us turn to a remarkable prophecy in Ezekiel 37, the vision of the valley of dry bones. God shows Ezekiel a scene of despair—bones scattered and lifeless, symbolizing Israel in exile. But then God speaks:
“I will make breath enter you, and you will come to life. I will attach tendons to you and make flesh come upon you and cover you with skin; I will put breath in you, and you will come to life. Then you will know that I am the Lord.” (Ezekiel 37:5-6)
What happens next is a miracle: the bones rattle, come together, and rise as a living people. Many of us see this fulfilled in 1948, when Modern Israel was reborn as a nation after nearly 2,000 years of dispersion. The Jewish people, once scattered and hopeless, were regathered to their ancestral land—an event that stunned the world and confirmed God’s faithfulness. This is no random historical footnote; it is the Almighty keeping His word. If God has fulfilled this prophecy, we can trust that the rest of His end-times plan is unfolding before our eyes.
Israel’s Role in the End Times
But why does Israel’s rebirth matter to us? Because it is a sign that we are nearing the climax of history—the return of Jesus Christ. Scripture points to Israel as the epicenter of end-times events. In Daniel 9:27, we read of a future covenant involving Israel:
“He will confirm a covenant with many for one ‘seven.’ In the middle of the ‘seven,’ he will put an end to sacrifice and offering. And at the temple, he will set up an abomination that causes desolation, until the end that is decreed is poured out on him.”
Jesus Himself expands on this in Matthew 24:15-21, warning of the “abomination of desolation” in the holy place, a time of tribulation tied to Jerusalem. These events signal the nearness of Christ’s return. Furthermore, in Romans 11:26, Paul proclaims:
“And in this way all Israel will be saved. As it is written: ‘The deliverer will come from Zion; he will turn godlessness away from Jacob.’”
In the last days, Israel will turn to Jesus as Messiah, a moment that will usher in the fullness of God’s kingdom. As believers, we are not bystanders but participants in this divine drama, called to watch and pray as these prophecies draw near.
Our Call to Stand with Israel
So, what does this mean for us today? It means we cannot ignore Israel’s place in God’s plan. We are living in prophetic times, and our response matters. Psalm 122:6 urges us:
“Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: ‘May those who love you be secure.’”
Prayer is our starting point, but it is not our stopping point. We are called to bless Israel practically—through advocacy, support, and sharing its biblical significance with others. To stand with Israel is to stand with God, for He calls it the apple of His eye (Zechariah 2:8). In doing so, we position ourselves for blessing and fulfill our role as faithful servants in these last days.
Let me leave you with this charge: commit to praying for Israel’s peace, protection, and salvation. Support her as God leads you, knowing that in blessing Israel, you honor His promises and hasten the day of Christ’s return. Our hope is not in nations but in the King who will one day reign from Jerusalem. Until then, let us be found faithful, standing with Israel as a testimony to our trust in God’s unshakable word.
May the Lord bless you as you seek to honor His purposes. May He make you bold to pray for Jerusalem and steadfast in supporting His people. And may you stand ready for the day when our Savior returns in glory. Amen.
