What a Lovely Name – The Power of the Only Name That Saves

There’s just something about that name.

In a little nowhere town called Nazareth, an angel walked into the life of a teenage girl and forever changed history with eight words:

“Thou shalt call his name JESUS.”

That name was no afterthought. It was no suggestion. It was the eternal decree of God. Seven centuries earlier, Isaiah had already seen it coming: “His name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace” (Isaiah 9:6). The angel simply delivered the invoice Heaven had signed before the foundation of the world.

Jesus. Yeshua. Jehovah saves.

The only name under heaven whereby we must be saved (Acts 4:12).

The world this Christmas will shout a thousand other names: Santa, Rudolph, Amazon, Eggnog. But Bible believers know there is only one name that makes hell shudder, demons flee, and guilty sinners sing.

That name was promised in the prophets.

That name was pronounced by the angel.

That name provoked humble surrender in a virgin’s heart: “Be it unto me according to thy word.”

That name purchased our redemption on a bloody cross and vindicated itself at an empty tomb.

Philippians 2:9–11 declares that God has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name—that at the name of Jesus every knee shall bow. You will bow, precious friend. The only question is when and how: willingly today in repentance and faith, or forcibly on the day of judgment.

There is still room at the cross for you. There is still cleansing in that lovely name. Repent. Believe the gospel. Be baptized. Follow Jesus with all your heart.

Because one day soon—maybe sooner than we think—the skies will split, the trumpet will sound, and every blood-bought child of God will see the King in His beauty.

And on that day we will sing louder than we’ve ever sung before:

“What a lovely name, the name of Jesus!”
